Our Church

By way of an introduction: we are an Anglican church in the East Midlands of the UK.

To use the US terminology, we have two campuses. One is a medieval church, the other a school hall that we have sole access to from Friday evening through Sunday. Both present their own unique challenges – for example we can’t make any substantial alterations to the fabric of the church without permission from the C of E and English Heritage at the very least, and obviously we can’t leave anything up permanently in the school hall during the week.

You will also often see me say ‘we have a low budget’ or equivalent. Don’t get me wrong – our PCC and Finance Committee do the best they can to allow us to keep things in working order and buy new technology to make things better. I generally use the phrase for the benefit of US readers brought up on a diet of Churchfront videos and the like, where there are pieces of gear being enthused over which represent all of our tech budget for the past two years just to patch a 48 channel audio feed to multiple destinations. By contrast with an established church of the same capacity in the USA, we are limited in our purchasing power and we basically have to do the best we can with what we have.

So (sad to say) no backstage racks of gear, in-ear monitors of video walls. Not even a digital mixer.
